In 2020, the "mandatory energy-saving standards for housing" are scheduled to be implemented, and it is expected that Japanese housing will increasingly aim for high airtightness and high insulation. However, at the same time, measures against condensation during the summer must be considered. In a site where glass wool was filled using the 2x4 construction method and a vapor barrier was installed on the interior side, significant corrosion due to condensation occurred. It is believed that the interior became hot and humid, leading to condensation as it was cooled by the air conditioner on the inside. The hold-down hardware also showed white mold, and if corrosion progresses like this, it will pose problems for the durability of the building. This type of summer condensation particularly occurs in regions with high temperatures and humidity, like Japan.
